Process: How your ceramic piece is made
Seven clearly defined steps give clay and glaze the time they need. Drying, firing and complete cooling take several days in particular and help ensure a stable result.

Homogenise the clay
Knead the clay thoroughly like pizza dough until the material is even and easy to work with.
- Key parameters
- Knead for at least 3 minutes.
- Quality and safety
- Avoid trapped air, as it can burst during bisque firing and damage your own or other pieces.

Shape the clay
Shape the prepared clay using a suitable technique, such as wheel throwing or hand-building at the table.

- Choose the technique to suit the desired form.
- Quality and safety
- Keep wall thickness as even as possible to reduce stress during drying and firing.

Dry
Allow the shaped pieces to dry completely at room temperature.
- Key parameters
- At least 5 to 7 days at room temperature.
- Quality and safety
- Only place completely dry pieces in the kiln to prevent cracks or flaking during firing.

Bisque firing
The dry pieces are fired for the first time. The clay becomes solid while remaining porous and ready for glaze.
- Key parameters
- Around 900 °C. The complete cycle, including cooling, takes approximately 48 hours.
- Quality and safety
- Heat slowly and wait for complete cooling before removing pieces from the kiln.

Glaze
The bisque-fired pieces are painted or glazed. Different glaze techniques can be used depending on the desired result.

- Select the glaze technique to suit the effect and material.
- Quality and safety
- Keep bases clean and control the glaze application, as glaze can run or react unexpectedly in the kiln.

Glaze firing
The glaze melts in the kiln and bonds with the surface, creating colour, gloss, texture and durability.
- Key parameters
- Above 1,000 °C, depending on clay and glaze.
- Quality and safety
- Glaze has a life of its own and results can vary. Objects must not touch in the kiln.

Finished piece
After complete cooling, the ceramics are removed from the kiln and inspected.

- Remove only once safely cooled.

- Carry out a final check for cracks, sharp areas, glaze defects and stability.

Here people can have a wonderful time by just glazing (painting yourself) a ceramic blank, or creating works themselves. When just glazing blanks, one visit, when creating works, two visits to the studio. Unique pieces produced in the workshop, as well as industrially manufactured ceramic blanks are available. The duration and gastronomic points are discussed in detail. The price depends on the scope, so please clarify when inquiring.
Children's Birthday Parties
Up to 12 children (maximum age 12) can experience an unforgettable painting event where they can be very creative. The children have the opportunity to glaze (paint) a milk cup, plate or cereal bowl. In addition, the children are shown around the studio and see the large ceramic kiln, which always leads to enthusiasm. The children have a wonderful keepsake from this special day that they can take home. 39,-€ per child.
