A look at the course process

From clay to finished piece

These existing snapshots show typical stages of a course. They are not a before-and-after series of the same piece, but they make the process easy to follow.

1. Shaping – the prepared clay takes its basic form on the pottery wheel.
2. Designing – colours and glazes are carefully applied to the piece.
3. Firing – the pieces are spaced apart in the kiln and fired under controlled conditions.
4. Finished – once fully cooled, the individual pieces are ready for collection.
